Here is my latest Vintage Style Spitfire, Royal Air Force T-Shirt. The Spitfire was a tremendous war fighter plane that defied the German Luftwaffe through the entire war. Especially during the battle of Britain. So it was only natural for me to create a design that celebrates the Spitfire.
A little Wiki History:
The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter aircraft used by the Royal Air Force and other Allied countries before, during and after World War II. Many variants of the Spitfire were built, using several wing configurations, and it was produced in greater numbers than any other British aircraft. It was also the only British fighter produced continuously throughout the war. The Spitfire continues to be popular among enthusiasts; nearly 60 remain airworthy, and many more are static exhibits in aviation museums throughout the world.
As I created this piece, I wanted to do something a little different, then I used to do. Of course my style will always be there, but on this design my goal was to use more hand lettering and I did!
I always work on Adobe illustrator first. I add some texture by re-inking my entire design to give it soul and imperfections!
Later after scanning, I edit and apply the graphic to my own texture. The result is pretty neat!
Finally, I apply the RAF color palette of yellow and marine blue for the t-shirt design.
